ALEXANDRE MONNTOYA

30 YEARS OF ARTISTIC JOURNEY

30 YEARS OF LIGHT, SILENCE, AND MASTERY

It is an honor to write this tribute to an artist who, after three decades of tireless searching, has made his name synonymous with soul and mastery. 2025 is not just a number on Alexandre Monntoya's calendar; it is the pinnacle of a journey that began with a timid stroke in Colombia and now resonates powerfully from his refuge among vineyards, in the hills of Italy.

• 1995-2025: The journey of a soul that learned to see the invisible.

Three decades have passed since that first mixed-media still life left the hands of a young Alexandre in Pereira, Colombia. What was then an instinctive impulse—an "invisible thread" connecting him to creation despite not coming from a lineage of artists—has transformed today into a legacy of profound realism that transcends simple visual representation.

"I am an artist living in the body of a human."

• The Awakening of an Empirical Master

The story of Alexandre Monntoya is that of an artist forged in the fire of self-criticism. His academy had no stone walls, but rather the walls of his own gallery and framing workshop in Cali, where daily contact with canvases and tools awakened the oil painter within. His mastery is the child of pure observation, of that ability—as he defines it—to "see what others do not." From that first Young Talent award at age 24, Alexandre understood that art was not just technique, but a language from the soul, for the soul.

• The Exodus Toward Perfection: From Spain to Italy

"The true journey is not about seeking new worlds, but about shedding the imposter to find oneself"

In July 2001, his search for growth led him to cross the ocean. Spain was his school and home for two decades, the stage where his technique reached exquisite maturity and where his name began to shine in international galleries. However, a true artist never stops evolving.

In 2020, Alexandre chose the silence of the Italian mountains in Piedmont. There, amidst the mist and peace of the Biellese Prealps, his work has taken an introspective turn.

Today, from the hills of Monferrato, his brushstrokes do not only capture the texture of skin or the brightness of a gaze with astonishing hyperrealism; they capture conflicts, dreams, and universal truths.

• Technique at the Service of the Spirit

To speak of Monntoya is to speak of meticulousness. His processes are rituals of patience where light and shadow fight a constant battle. In recent works such as “The Garden of Doubt” or “Birth,” we see an artist who commands oil with almost architectural precision, yet uses that perfection to question our human identity. For him, the human figure is not the end, but the vehicle. Alexandre’s realism does not seek to deceive the eye, but to move the heart. Every pore, every fold, and every atmosphere in his paintings is a testament to his respect for the craft and his ethical commitment to beauty.

• Three Decades of Legacy

Reaching this 30-year milestone with the relevance and freshness of his current work is an achievement reserved for the greats. Alexandre Monntoya has proven that art is a long-distance race where the only competition is with oneself.

Today we celebrate not only the painter but the man who had the courage to close galleries and cross borders to remain true to his vision.

We celebrate three decades of a signature—that "double n" which is already a mark of excellence—that continues to remind us that, through art, the eternal can inhabit a canvas.
